The
Vincentian Center for Church and Society presents the third biennial
Conference
on Poverty and Social Justice for academics, service providers, community
and religious leaders, social justice committees, and policy makers to
explore perspectives on poverty, inequality in the distribution of income
and wealth and its impact on poor people and, to move beyond problem
analysis to systemic and personal solutions.
In this 40th anniversary
year of Pope John XXIII's Pacem in Terris, the conference emphasizes
motives and methods for building social and economic solidarity. This Conference aims to :
- provide
a platform for conversations on poverty, economic development
and Gospel responsibility
- expand
the knowledge base and vision of participants
- address
issues of poverty from a Catholic social justice perspective
- discuss
successful methods of overcoming the causes of poverty
- focus
on solution-oriented approaches to the consequences of poverty
- encourage
systemic thinking about solutions and enhance mutual interests
- foster
dialogue and working relationships between academics and practitioners.
