Getting to know the Daughters of Charity, yourself

If you are interested in learning more about the Daughters of Charity, please consider filling out the form below. If your browser does not handle forms, send us email. You will receive a phone call or a visit from a sister who will assist you with the discernment process. If you wish, she will help you to learn more about our community, other religious communities, and help you to pray and think about options available to you. Sometimes a short live-in experience with the sisters is enough to clarify ones call.

After a decision is made and entrance requirements are met, the prospective Daughter of Charity is admitted first as a postulant. During this time she lives and serves with the sisters as she deepens her spiritual life and learns about the life of a Daughter of Charity. She then enters the Seminary or Novitiate, for an intensive religious formation program, during which she is taught the meaning and the obligations of the life of a Daughter of Charity.

Then, the Sister is sent to a local community where she either begins her actual service of the poor or continues her preparation for the ministry in the area of healthcare, education, pastoral or social ministry. After five to seven years as a community member, she may be allowed to pronounce her first vows, which she renews annually. The Daughters of Charity, called by Christ and sharing his spirit, pray, work and live together in order to bear witness to Christ, and to strengthen one another for the service of the poor.
