Vincentian Chair of Social Justice

The Vincentian Chair of Social Justice, established and endowed by the Board of Trustees of St. John's University and the Congregation of the Mission in 1994, focuses on issues of social justice and the social teaching of the Church. Its creation responded directly to the challenge Pope John Paul II issued in 1986 to the world-wide Vincentian community not only to only serve the poor, but also to search out causes of poverty and to investigate solutions.

The Chair encourages faculty research, convenes academic colloquia, offers educational programs and sponsors the annual Social Justice lecture presented during Founder's Week each January. A publication includes this prestigious lecture as well as other justice presentations by faculty and others sponsored by the Chair.

Annual Lectures: The Vincentian Chair of Social Justice lecture has been presented by:

BIENNIAL CONFERENCES ON POVERTY AND SOCIAL JUSTICE

2007 The Just and Moral Society: From Ideal to Reality

2005 Hope: Foundation of Civilization of Love and Justice

2003 Faces and Facets of 21st Century Poverty

2001 Living Justice: Pathways from Poverty and Commitment to the Common Good

1999 The Moral Dimensions of Poverty
